The days of buying a plant just because it looks nice are gone. Customers need to feel confident that the plants we offer are in fact, for this area and will meet or surpass expectations. Customers are entitled to honest answers to questions about how a plant will perform.
Our goals are simple:
Educate customers so they can be successful, confident gardeners.
Provide healthy plants that are grown in and for this area.
Opening for the season on April 2nd, 2012
Availability List Pages will be posted in February.
As growers, all of the perennials and annuals we offer are brought in as either rooted cuttings, bareroot stock, or as seedlings in liners. Every effort is made to have the plants ready/available when customers stop out to shop for them. We have maintained a strict policy over the years that plants must be "ready" for sales. We define "ready" as a plant that has filled out it's root zone in the pot it's being offered in. That way, customers can easily transplant our plants in ground or into container gardens. To help avoid confusion, we have decided to include the anticipated "ready date" on our Availability List pages and on signage here at the greenhouse for plants that need more time and TLC on the bench and will be ready/available at a later date.
A scenic 16 mile drive from Elko, Colorscapes Greenhouse is conveniently located in the Spring Creek area. Follow the Lamoille Highway/227, turn right at the Pleasant Valley turnoff, make an immediate left, go one block, and there we are.

Saponaria (Soapwort)
8" Groundcover, Spring-Early Summer to Square 3.5" Pot $3.49
Groundcover that's perfect in many ways; good foliage and bright pink flowers. Needs ample water if planted in full sun. The seeds are viable, so we shear in late summer after the seeds have set and fallen. Popular as a rock garden plant or at the base of shrubs, vines, and other perennials. As is often the case with groundcovers, Saponaria are lovely when planted along the garden border to soften hard edges and spill over garden walls or raised beds.
Business Profile
Since opening in 1991, we've made improvements in just about every aspect of production, but some things haven't changed. I was going through some files and came across a sheet simply labeled Company Success drafted during a business class I was taking at GBC in 1999.

In 2000, I joined the Perennial Plant Association. The association provides valuable information on growing perennials and showcases new and noteworthy perennials. Since 1990, the PPA has designated an exceptional perennial as the PPA Plant of the Year. This season we have ten of those award winners.
Colorscapes Greenhouse is a certified Proven Winners Garden Center and offers these outstanding plants in 4" pots, hanging gardens, and in upright container gardens. Because of their robust growth and amazing ability to continue flowering throughout the season without deadheading, their popularity continues over the years.
